Beautillion Event
Beta Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
Omaha, NE
Beautillion History
The concept of the Beautillion was presented to the late Dorothy Allen, a Guild Member that attended the National Urban League Regional Conference. The program was initially designed and presented by another Guild chapter from the South. In October 1977, Omaha, Nebraska Guild Chapter held its first Beautillion.
The purpose of the Beautillion is to provide an opportunity for young men from the local area an opportunity to earn a scholarship to college; to experience unique and creative learning presentations rooted in the promotion of community service personal responsibility, the importance of moral character, positive role models, good communication skills, health and well-being for the entire family.
Since 1977, the Beautillion has been a scholarship fundraiser for senior high school African American males. The event provides a mentoring & life component for the young men; and for their mother’s the opportunity to present their sons’ to the public as they transition into manhood.
The Beautillion provides a positive and enriching environment where participants are recognized for their personal and academic accomplishments and extra-curricular activities. The program culminates with a black tie event, including a performance, dance of the mother and son and his female escort and a tribute to the beaus recognizing their outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements.
In 2008, the Omaha Nebraska Guild Chapter of the National Urban League turned the Beautillion over to the Beta Upsilon Scholarship Foundation a 501-(c)3 corporation, which is the philanthropic arm of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Beta Upsilon Chapter in Omaha, NE.
